Je Na Sais I Do // Bridesmaid Invitations

I love using this space as a way to work through issues that we can all relate to: how to master the art of fighting with your boyfriend, what to wear when attending a wedding, at which you know zero people, how to deal with acne in your 20s (and other things that matter a lot to women and very little to men, things I have no real authority on, but somehow feel experienced enough to bitch about).

If you’re engaged, close to it, married or divorced, you may be familiar with, or in the hell-like throes of, the struggle of choosing bridesmaids. How does one decide who belongs in a taffeta dress, and who should be spared? I’ve been a bridesmaid three times. I was fortunate enough to attain a large group of high school friends – all of which I still talk to often, a smaller group of college friends, whom I see when I can, not to mention I have two sisters and a sister-in-law-to-be. Honestly, I’m not here to tell you how to work through that, because frankly, it is not my strong suit. I actually have no idea, whatsoever, how to include, or my route, not include, every single person in a wedding. My attempt was a huge failure – so much so that I will never divorce James solely because I never want to go through selecting bridesmaids again.

I am here, however, to show you how I asked six ladies to be in our wedding at the library. I tied in the venue, my colors, a little creativity and one sturdy pair of scissors.

boxes that look like books

I found these little boxes that looked like books (because of the library, get it?) and chose a color for each girl.

craft for bridesmaid invitations

I selected several sheets of craft paper in our wedding colors, cut them into hearts and dropped them into each box.

bridesmaid invites

I ordered these adorable custom invites off Etsy. I chose hair color to match each girl, with alternating dresses for fun and each card read, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” or “Will you be my Maid of Honor?”

I ended up cutting all their legs off to fit into the book boxes. I felt bad about it.
